2012 Olympic Games

Only 72 days until the 2012 London Olympics Opening Ceremony. For London 2012, two of the 11 massage therapists assigned to a position with the Australian Olympic team will come from the Subiaco Sports Massage Clinic. Bernd Adolph and Senior Therapist Natasha Brock are eagerly looking forward to the event and we are all counting down the days.

Cycling WA

Subiaco Sports Massage Clinic is very pleased to announce our new affiliation with Cycling WA. To celebrate this union all Cycling WA members (on presentation of their Cycling WA membership card) will receive $10 off every 1hr and $5 off every 45min treatment until June 2013.

SSMC has enjoyed treating an increasing number of cyclists as the popularity of the sport has increased along with individual training intensity; and we only expect this number to rise with many taking full advantage of this exclusive offer.

So if your one of the thousands of Perth cyclists, come on in & let us help keep you in the saddle, whether it be injury specific, injury prevention or essential maintenance.

Feel free to have a look at the Cycling WA Website: http://www.wa.cycling.org.au/

HBF Run For A Reason

The HBF Run for a Reason is being held on Sunday 29th May and therapists from Subiaco Sports Massage Clinic will be at the WACA providing post race flushes to participants.

Runners preparing for 14kms train really hard and sometimes over train, hindering their progress through injury. Frequent massage will help to keep those muscle tissues stretched and ensuring they’re receiving the right nutritious blood flow keeping their body in the best physical and mental shape as possible.

Regular massage increases the health of the muscle tissue and will encourage blood circulation. In other words, a deep massage will help to open the fibers in your muscle tissues, allowing fresh oxygen and nutrients to flow enabling a more rapid recovery.

Massage promotes the release of endorphins, which will act as natural painkillers, keeping a positive mental mindset, calm anxiety while reducing some of the muscle soreness associated with your heavy training schedule.

Regular weekly massages will definitely help to keep your body in shape as you prepare for your event.

A post-race massage is very different from a deep tissue massage. These massages will be a light flushing treatment that will simply help re-direct blood flow up and out of your legs. This helps facilitate the post-race recovery process. The therapist’s touch will be light compared to your pre – massage treatments.

If you wish to book pre-race and post-race massages, please contact the clinic on (08) 9382 3969 and we will happily book you in for your treatment.

Good luck to all the participants competing in the event this year!

Dry Needling Course

Part two of our very popular Myofascial Dry Needling course run by Stuart Condi was completed in May. We are happy to announce that the clinic now has a high number of therapists holding this important qualification. Dry needling derives from acupuncture, and specifically targets trouble spots known as “trigger-points”. These acutely contracted muscle bundles are “deactivated” and released with a super-fine acupuncture needle. Some trigger-points can be treated in a single session. Other more persistent ones take longer. The treatment benefits patients with postural, holding-pattern and chronic-pain problems.

Our experienced therapists will attend your workplace with treatments that concentrate on the back, neck and shoulders – the muscles that suffer most from sitting for extended periods. Staff will be less likely to complain of headache and muscle aches and will appreciate your gesture of attending to their health needs. For further details, please contact the clinic on (08) 9382 3969.

World Championships in Shanghai

Following the recent 5-day National Short Course event held by Swimming Australia in Adelaide, clinic owner, Bernd Adolph is in Shanghai with the Australian Swimming Team.
The team has been preforming exceptionally well and Australia has a new sporting superstar after James Magnussen powered his way to the 100m freestyle world title in Shanghai on Thursday night.
Congratulations to all the athletes who have competed.

City to Surf

It’s that time of year again; The City to Surf is just around the corner. This year the event is being held on 28th August. Following the many years of success, this year is sure to be no different.

It raises much needed funds for the Activ Foundation. Activ is one of WA’s leading community benefit organisations and has been providing services and support to people with disabilities since 1951. Activ’s services are provided across the Perth metropolitan area, as well as in regional towns including Albany, Bunbury, Busselton, Esperance, Geraldton, Kalgoorlie, Kellerberrin, Manjimup and Narrogin.

Runners preparing for a marathon train really hard and sometimes over train, hindering their progress through injury.

For best results you should not have a massage more than 2-3 days before your big event.

Avon Decent

This year the Avon Decent is being held on Saturday, 6 August 2011 to Sunday, 7 August 2011.

The Avon Descent is Western Australia’s own unique sporting event that attracts competitors and spectators from throughout Australia and overseas. Competitors challenge the Avon and Swan rivers in a variety of paddle and power craft in an exciting two-day time trial over 134 gruelling kilometres. The action packed white water race is a great event for spectators.
Low water levels for the 2010 event resulted in an exhausting race for competitors, but great fun for spectators. The 2011 race is sure to have competitors keen to come back to conquer the Avon and Swan Rivers.

Good luck to all the teams competing in the event this year!

Dry Needling Course

We are happy to announce that the clinic now has a high number of therapists holding this important qualification. Dry needling derives from acupuncture, and specifically targets trouble spots known as “trigger-points”. These acutely contracted muscle bundles are “deactivated” and released with a super-fine acupuncture needle. Some trigger-points can be treated in a single session. Other more persistent ones take longer. The treatment benefits patients with postural, holding-pattern and chronic-pain problems.

For those interested in taking part in our next Dry Needling course later in the year, please note that the date has been changed. The new course date is: November 11th-13th 2011. Staff will be less likely to complain of headache and muscle aches and will appreciate your gesture of attending to their health needs. For further details, please contact the clinic on (08) 9382 3969.

2012 Olympic Games

When it comes to aspirational assignments they don’t come much better than the Olympic Games. For London 2012, two of the 11 massage therapists assigned to a position with the Australian Olympic team will come from the Subiaco Sports Massage Clinic. Big, well-earned congratulations go to Senior Therapists Natasha Brock and Christine O’ Connor. It’s a reflection of the quality of the therapists we have working in our clinic that from a nation-wide pool, two of our people were on the coveted selection list.

Meanwhile, fresh from the Cricket World Cup, clinic owner, Bernd Adolph heads to Adelaide in July for the 5-day National Short Course event held by Swimming Australia.

Dry Needling Course

Part two of our very popular Myofascial Dry Needling course run by Stuart Condi was completed in June.

If you are interested, please be quick to book a place on (08) 9382 9396 as numbers are strictly limited and places fill fast.

Cupping Course

Our June Cupping Course for clinic staff was a great success. Cupping therapy uses glass cups to create a localised pressure vacuum on the skin. The vacuum inside the cup increases blood flow to the area and assists with healing. Be sure to mention this popular treatment if you would like to try it at your next appointment.

South Perth Welcomes Teresa

With an extra treatment room up and running at our South Perth Clinic, we have taken on a new receptionist to help with bookings. A big welcome to Teresa, who will be working Thursdays and Fridays from 11.15am to 7.15pm and on Saturday mornings until 1pm.

New Clinic Hours and Bookings System

With increasing demand for earlier treatments, both the Subiaco and South Perth clinics will open at 7.45am (Monday to Friday) from July. This will suit many of our clients seeking treatments before work.

July also marks kick-off for our new web-based booking program. The new system is designed to streamline the bookings process. If your details have changed since completing the initial client detail form, please ask reception to update your records. (Please bear with us over this transition period as we work towards providing an even better service to you!) And remember that you can avoid the wait at our busy reception by paying for treatments in advance.

Corporate Service

The Subiaco Sports Massage Clinic also provides a Corporate Massage Service. Our experienced therapists will attend your workplace with treatments that concentrate on the back, neck and shoulders – the muscles that suffer most from sitting for extended periods. Massage boosts blood flow to these muscles, improving oxygen supply. Staff will be less likely to complain of headache and muscle aches and will appreciate your gesture of attending to their health needs. For further details, please contact the clinic on (08) 9382 3969.

Force for Good

The Western Force 2011 Season of the Super 14 has come to an end. Well done to all the team for a great result and finishing the season with a win!
Two of our therapists, Paul Ashburne and Emma Egan, were invited to attend the Force 2011 Awards Evening that was held on July 1st.
Check out the photos from the night that are in our Photo Section.

International Recruits

The Clinic has always been a popular work destination for overseas therapists, who bring a different range of skills and experience to the mix. Stay tuned for our next intake, coming to the clinic soon. Exciting times ahead!!

Clinic Owner, Bernd Adolph, is happy to be back from India after being away for 2 months with the Australian Cricket Team.

The WAIS swimmers have recently competed at the National Championships in April and Jaye Thomas, one of our lead therapists for swimming, travelled to Sydney to provide soft tissue support. Several WA swimmers qualified for World Championships as a result of their efforts in the pool and Jaye was kept busy with pre- and post-competition treatments throughout the week of racing.

The National Women’s Gymnastics Championships will be held this year at Challenge Stadium in July and Natasha Brock, our lead therapist for WAIS gymnastics, will be providing soft tissue support throughout the Championships. WAIS will be represented by a fantastic group of talented gymnasts and we wish them all the best.

We have said goodbye to two of our Senior Soft Tissue Therapists, Patrik Weiss and Clare O’Connell, who have moved to Germany to pursue other goals. We wish them all the best in their new endeavour.

We welcome a number of new massage therapists to the Clinic – Jesse Jacobs, Christy Scoullar, Rebecca Welsh, Julie Bridson, Rannel Mendoza and Shioto Fukushima. They bring a variety of techniques and backgrounds to our Clinic and we are very excited about them joining our staff. We will soon be posting their profiles so keep an eye out. We also welcome Gabriella Miller and Ryan Ebert, who will be working as massage therapists whilst studying Physiotherapy in Perth.

We have had the opportunity to treat our first AFL football team. The Sydney Swans used two of our Senior Therapists, Trevor Wilmot and Natasha Brock, at Patersons Stadium during their game with the West Coast Eagles. We look forward to treating other AFL teams when they travel to Perth.

The Western Force are approaching the end of the Super 14 season and we have enjoyed providing all of their massage needs. We have also been referred to their opponents for Perth-based matches so we have been quite busy with the Rugby this year. We look forward to providing massage services to the Force next season.

The ANZ Championship Netball season has now ended and we also look forward to providing massage services again to the West Coast Fever next year.

The Myofascial Dry Needling course will again be held in Perth from 24-26 September. If you are interested or need additional information, please contact Stacey Nener, Office Manager.

Don’t forget about our Corporate Massage Services. We can provide experienced therapists to your workplace. For further details, please contact Stacey Nener, Office Manager.

We have a new treatment room at the South Perth Clinic which will be available for use in June. With the increase in rooms, this will allow us to provide more therapists for the afternoon shifts which will accommodate for the high demand of appointments.

To keep with current technology, both clinics will be integrated with a web based client management system which will streamline bookings by improving the flow of patient processing, and more easily managing appointments and scheduling. This will improve office efficiency and productivity, and reduce administration costs. We would just like to thank you for your patience during the time of not having a system.

Within this new system we will be looking into getting HI Caps which will enable you to claim within our clinic on the day of your appointment.

With the increase of rooms at South Perth, we are currently looking for a Part Time Receptionist for the clinic to work during our busy periods. If you, or anyone you know is interested, please send your resume to info@sportsmassage.com.au

Every year, the Subiaco Sports Massage Clinic hosts a Myofascial Dry Needling Workshop.

http://www.sportsmassage.com.au/courses

We have found that Dry Needling is an excellent way to supplement remedial massage, especially in the treatment of trigger points. These acute contractions cause stiffness, pain and postural problems - the workshop teaches therapists to identify and palpate these contractions, assess myofascial tension, and treat both with the use of dry needling techniques. Derived from Acupuncture, this method has been a huge success at the Clinic - a number of clients now come exclusively for the relief offered by Dry Needling.

The Workshop is held in 2 parts – upper and lower body. The first part will be held at the Subiaco Police and Citizens’ Youth Club, 450 Rokeby Rd, Subiaco 6008 on April 16th 17th and 18th. The course is $430 for AAMT members, $500 for non-members.

To secure your place, please contact;

Subiaco Sports Massage Clinic, 3/415 Rokeby Road (Cnr Rokeby & Nicholson Rds), Subiaco WA 6008

Payments by Cheque, Money Order, or cash in person need to be received by Friday the 25th of March!

The Clinic would like to congratulate all clients who participated in the Rotto Channel Swim. Setting yourself a fitness challenge is a great way to maintain your motivation for exercise. Setting a specific goal is especially effective – just remember your cool down and stretching! The Clinic had a team of therapists on-site this year, treating the Bunbury Catholic Grammar School – the kids had an excellent showing, with the Boys finishing 10th overall in their category (5 hrs 26) and the Girls teams 8th and 13th in theirs.

We’ve had a busy new year at the Clinic, with sporting action dominating the calendar – at both international and interstate levels, elite athletes continue to choose the Subiaco Sports Massage Clinic for their remedial massage needs. The WAIS Gymnastics girls have been getting great results from their treatment, upping their round to 4 days a week. Natasha and the team have been treating 25 gymnasts (up from 12), with the focus for the athletes already on the 2012 Olympic Games. Their first big hurdle is the National Championships in July, an event that Natasha will accompany the team to.

Clare, Patrik, James, Paul, Emma and Mark are continuing their great work with the Western Force – we wish the boys the best of luck for their game against the SA Sharks this weekend! Emma is also taking over from Clare as our main authority on Netball, looking after the West Coast Fever. The girls go up against the NSW Swifts on Monday at Olympic Park.

Bernd is out of the country (until April, if you’re chasing an appointment!), helping the Australian Cricket Team with their assault on the World Cup. The Australians have won all of their matches so far, playing New Zealand and Zimbabwe, with Kenya and Canada to follow soon. Back home, Paul, James, Fiona and Verity have been working on the Tasmanian and Queensland Cricket Teams – a real test of loyalty as both teams have gone on to play WA the next morning! For the Subiaco Sports Massage Clinic, the Sheffield Cup will always be a bit complicated.

Jaye will be away this April, travelling to the Telstra Australian Swimming Championships. We wish the all the WA competitors the best, particularly old friends of the Clinic like Eamon Sullivan and Geoff Huegil. The meet will determine placements for the 2011 World Championships in Shanghai – the prelude to London’s 2012 Olympic Games.

And we haven’t forgotten our non-athlete clients – if you are on or join the Clinic’s E-mailing list in March, appointments at our South Perth location can be booked at a discounted rate of $65 – that’s 20 dollars off the full price!!!
